Wow, I've been running around here and there I didn't even have time to sit down and biiiiiiitch about my Spiderman fiasco on May 2. There goes being one of the first people among my friends to watch Spiderman 3 because I ended up watching ONLY HALF of the movie. Grrr. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get to biiiiiitch about this yesterday because it wouldn't have came out pretty, and most probably full of obscene words. Now that I'm calmer, I'll probably just use lesser obscene words? XD
Just in case there are, again, people who take things too literally, the title is just a form of speech, K?
Basically, there's this cinema at a mall called Plaza Senayan that's been under renovation for A LONG TIME now. And unfortunately, it was our favorite cinema because it's most convenient for me and my friends to go to after work, Ami works in the building too, and Kinokuniya is in the building too, so it's like the most perfect mall to make all our usual stops, which would be food, movies, and Kinokuniya: the provider of our essential EMOTIONAL need for magazines. We've been quite bummed that the cinema closed down for renovation, and we had to go ACROSS THE STREET to newly-opened competitor mall Senayan City that is: 1. is very huuuge so it's super damn tiring for us to walk from the lobby to the cinema on the darn 5th floor at the end of the universe, 2. has no Kinokuniya, 3. has no Bakerzin... so we just go there whenever we need to catch a movie. But during our non-movie get together nights, for some reason we always return to good ol' Plaza Senayan
So when Plaza Senayan announced the SOFT OPENING of their newly-revamped cinema on May 2, guess who were the FIRST PEOPLE to immediately zoom over to Plaza Senayan to catch our long-awaited Spiderman? Yep, that would be me, Ami, Toro, Nenek XD (oh and Deni too LOL but he's just there coz everywhere else is sold out) Come to think of it now, WHAT THE HECK WERE WE THINKING jumping directly to catch the first day showing at a cinema that JUST RE-OPENED on that very same day!!!! We walked in and even the paint barely dried!!! I walked in and OMG POISON FUMES! POISON FUMES! GAS MASK! GAS MASK!!! HELP!!! *CHOKE*... *FAINTS*... *DIES*... OK well I didn't die but if I stayed in the ladies room for 30 minutes I guarantee I would've reached the fainting stage.
Anyway... I was all ready for my night with the Spider-Man. I got out of work earlier, I bought my food and drinks, successfully SMUGGLED it into the theatre heh heh... we had perfect rows and perfect center seats... movie started. Nenek whispered to me: "Is it just me or is the screen blur?" OK, apparently we all are pretty paranoid, but we're not being silly anyways because there really *IS* something wrong with the cinema.
First glitch, the scene was Peter in Aunt May's kitchen. They had a bonding moment, Aunt May gives Peter her wedding ring, they hug and SUDDENLY AUDIO DIES, SCREEN DIES, AND WE'RE SITTING IN DARKNESS. WTF?!?!?! The theater was confused, but they all just kinda waited and waited calmly. Dude, it was a LONG FREAKIN' GLITCH!!! WTF it was almost 5 minutes long and when the screen came back to life, suddenly Peter and Harry were already flying in between buildings beating the life out of each other WTF?!?!?!?!!!! OKAY HOW DID THE SCENE GET FROM PETER AND AUNT MAY HUGGING IN THE KITCHEN TO SUDDENLY HARRY AS THE NEW GOBLIN BEATING THE LIFE OF A COSTUMELESS SPIDEY?!?!?!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!
And I really thought that was the end of it, until THE SECOND GLITCH HAPPENED during a Daily Bugle scene. I can't even remember anymore what it was because I was sooooo distracted by the fact that THERE WAS A SECOND DEAD SCREEN GLITCH??? DURING A SPIDERMAN 3 MOVIE???!!! IS THIS CINEMA INSANE???! ARE THEY EVEN READY TO OPERATE??!?!! THIS MAJORLY SUCKS!!! Toro & Nenek were so pissed they're ready to walk out then and there. But I really wanted to watch this movie and we're already sitting there so I said if there's a THIRD glitch, WE WALK OUT. I was really hoping there's no third glitch whatsoever, because TWO glitches were already BAD ENOUGH, to have THREE is like DEATH WISH for their image.
And whaddya know...? The THIRD ONE did happen!!! When Black Spidey paid a visit to Harry and beat the crap out of him!!! OMGWTF?!?!?!!!!! Third time's a charm? Indeed!!! I walked out with Toro & Nenek, Ami stayed behind because she got distracted by Harry *WHACKS AMI* But OMG Harry is such a dreamboat! *DIES*... *WHACKS SELF*... Logan Logan Logan Logan Logan Huntzberger!!! XDDDD
Seriously, I was sooooo pissed off that my movie experience was entirely ruined!!!! I figured that I would have to watch the entire Spiderman 3 ALL OVER AGAIN anyway, so might as well save end half for when I'm actually watching the entire movie properly WITHOUT GLITCH INTERRUPTIONS FROM A STUPID POORLY-MANAGED NEWLY-RENOVATED CINEMA. OMGWTF UPGRADE MY ASS!!! It's not like they've never ran a cinema before. And what's worse, this wasn't even a new location, they HAD a cinema right there exactly at the same place, and they renovated, and upgraded, into a cinema with jammed projectors every reel change? Unbelievable.
Well, they did refund me. But I'm still baffled at how poorly they managed this soft opening. The mousy manager asked us to please understand because it's only their first day. WTF?! THAT IS NO EXCUSE!!! I still think that FIRST IMPRESSION IS EVERYTHING and it's just very very sad that most of the time, most of Indonesian management fail to realize that. If you're open for business, you make sure EVERYTHING IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY, and that you're 110% READY FOR BUSINESS!!! Because once a boo-boo happens, your customers would walk out screaming bad word of mouth to just about everyone you know and perhaps never return again for the rest of their lives (or at least for 6-12 months!)
Now I have to re-watch Spiderman 3 all over again. And all tickets are sold out due to advance bookings so I probably won't be able to catch another viewing until... next week the sooonest? And it's not even THAT GREAT of a Spiderman (from what I've seen during the 1st half -.-) But oh well, there's always James Franco to look forward to I guess?
